PHIM | Heritage and History of the Marble Industry

Description:

The project promotes the study and inventory of the industrial activity of extraction, transformation and application of crystalline ornamental rocks in Portugal, particularly addressing the Alentejo Marbles area (Borba, Estremoz and Vila Viçosa).

The first phase of the project (2012-2015), aiming at the study of this industry between 1850-1986, and resulted in the development of an Online Documentation and Information Center (https://phim.cechap.com), a thematic publication and a digital road map.

The second phase of the project (2017-2019) - "Marbles of the Alentejo - 2000 thousand years of history" will have as outputs 2 publications (between the first and the twentieth century), and various conferences and workshops.
