PASEV | Patrimonialization of Évora's Soundscape (1540 - 1910)

PASEV | Patrimonialization of Évora's Soundscape (1540 - 1910)

Description:

The notion of soundscapes makes it possible to understand musical activity from a wide-ranging contextual perspective. It enables us to  reconstruct contexts, circuits and to map out the presence of music and musicians, taking music as a social, political and cultural activity.  The urban aspect with respect to the musical activity of religious institutions, and in the squares or theatres, creates a particularly rich soundscape in the case of Évora .

The project is centered on charting as many historical sound events as possible in the city of Évora from 1540 (creation of Évora's Archbishopric) to 1910  (beginning of Republic in Portugal).

It proposes an interactive database and the compilation of audio and visual documents that enable the visitor to experience as much as possible in the city, like thematic itineraries to explore historical musical scenarios through various virtual platforms, such as apps (smartphones), to enriching routes in loco in the city.
