Documentos Históricos da Cidade de Évora

These indexes do not seek to be like so many others. They intend to translate an analysis of the series of historical documents, therefore including elements that normally would not be a part of it. Thus, the indexes are in permanent construction, and any suggestions to improve them are appreciated.

Meanwhile, we hope to improve the inputs system. Still, we prefer to have the preliminary work available to the public.

Some remarks:

1 - Each entry is on the singular form, although plural forms can be found in the text.

2 – In general, male and female terms appear in a unique way. When that does not happen, because of the interest and rarity that one form may have, the amendment is duly marked.

3 – As a rule, the Index refers only to the texts of the documents and not to the comments of the compiler.

4 - It is likely that many entries concern roles and not jobs, but the option was to include them, once they tend to organize and socially frame individuals.

5 - It is important to remind all users of these indexes that the sources cover a wide range of time periods.  In that sense, it is not surprising the existence of entries that refer to terms used long after medieval times.

6 - Only terms concerning titles were used. Thus, homonyms words, for example, were subject of some screening (a typical case: “father”, if related to parenthood, it is not included). Terms to complete and clarify:

- Barregã (?): 177, 182,

- Ribeirinhos (?): 391
