Introduction

The MA in History at the Univeristy of Évora prepares students to: a) understand the role of History in the development of citizenship; b) practice critical and reasoned debate; c) identify the major topics of debate in historiography and emphasize its importance   The MA's teaching staff has outstanding academic skills and will provide close guidance to all students. Faculty members belong to several research units sponsored by the FCT (CIDEHUS-UÉVORA, CHAIA-UÉVORA and CEHFCI at IHC NOVA), that will offer short-term scholarships to support archival missions and participate in international events.  Main objectives: a) To promote research and advanced studies in the scientific areas of History and Art History b) To develop knowledge on the Portuguese society in an historical and global framework c) To increase academic qualifications and to promote the ability to apply historical research to present day societies, namely in the Alentejo region d) To prepare students to proceed to doctoral studies programs, to enter research teams or to apply to a big range of professional positions
